June 9th, Last practice day Finke Race

All packed up with the bike and kit, and we headed over to the Showgrounds to pick up Rich and Walter for the day's run. Rich had to ride to the track as they had a flat tyre on the car, so we started at the beginning of the desert track.

After unloading, and a few running repairs, involving a hammer, the boys took off headed South.
Last minute adjustments
Roy and Rich, keen (sort of) to go out on the track

Riders and team. Ready for practice

We met up with them briefly at the red sand dune 30km down before they took off again and we headed for fuel stop one to meet them for lunch. A cool day with a stiff breeze which blew the dust off the track pretty well, but it was nice and warm sitting on the tailgate in the sun out of the wind.

Roy and Rich headed South on the road not the track as it was after 12midday, then they hopped onto the track heading North back to us. Surprising and concerning to see a number of buggies and side by sides also on the track. Very dangerous for the bike riders.

When the boys got back to us after about half an hour they headed for home and we drove alongside with Wal taking video out the window, until the road diverged from the track. We then met them back at the beginning of the track to pack up, deliver Walter back to the camp ground and then back to Winter Sun camp caravan park for us.

Recovering from the shock of experiencing the track!

Chris and Graeme, seasoned Finke team members, popped in for a cuppa as they had just arrived in town, and we organised to come back for the state of origin game 1 with pizza. NSW won by a landslide with 50pts and the pizzas were pretty good to, so a good night!
